Your first appearance means everything, right? Well, for most program directors or record companies for that matter, they see your press kit first! Below, we will tell you why it is vital to have a press kit and what you should include in it.
What's a press kit's purpose?
A press kit introduces you to the media outlet and/or record company. Many people would love to be able to meet with these people face to face, but we all know that this is hardly possible to fit in their schedules. The first thing any radio station, newspaper, tv producer, or record rep will request from you is a press kit. This is your opportunity to show them who you are, what you're about, and where you plan to be. This is your time to "PROMOTE" yourself.
What's in a press kit?
First of all, you need a grammatically correct bio, a biography of who you (the artist) are. If writing was never your strongsuit, please, have someone write this for you. Secondly, you should include a resume of your works. These works should include all album releases, collaborations (if with a national artist, especially), and mix tape features. Throwing in a list of your live performances is great as well. Thirdly, and most importantly, have a professional 8x10 glossy included. Why? This is the entertainment industry after all, and the bottom line is how marketable you are. Sad, but so true.
How do I do this?
Easy. I&L Promotions specializes in press kits, consultation, and artist development. If you are in need of a professional quality press kit, shoot me an email and we can get you on the path to professionalism.
